I've previously used several tools, eg Keepvid, Savevid etc to download streaming video, eg Youtube etc.

The latest and so far probably the best is savefrom.net.

I've used the YTO extension for chrome before to download youtube videos (and cut out all the cruft from a youtube page so it's just the video that displays.. that alone makes it worth loading up on older computers that get bogged down when too much javascript and flash load at once.)

However, this tool is neat, does a heck of a lot more than just youtube, and even does rapidshare links without having to go through the annoying countdown.

I've used Flash Video Downloader for Firefox when I need it. Works and isn't too annoying.
