Free time in trading?

I am reading Fooled by Randomness (a book in the recommended reading list). The book has a character that is some sort of financial speculator (I don't remember exactly what he does) with a lot of free time and he was able to pursue a lot of different interests along with his career.
Do you think this is realistic in forex?
Forex took my attention because I want to avoid working doing 9-18. I know it comes with the big trade off of risk stress, but I would like to try my hand on it.
Thanks in advanced

Forex can offer flexible hours but involves significant risk and stress. Thorough education, a clear plan, and disciplined risk management are crucial for success.
