Trading Audio Books

Hello all,

I suppose this would fall under the category of trader development...

I have just accepted an offer for a new job which will be in the city so I will be riding the bus to work every day soon. Does anyone have recommendations on some really good trading audio books? I would love to get some loaded on my iPhone to make this bus ride productive every day!

I will probably also load a bunch of trading eBooks onto my iPad for reading material as well, but there is already a sticky for that.

Thanks,

Slug

I just thought of this but if you go to audible.com and cross reference with my thread about suggested books or video it should be a good combo

This guy has the right idea,

The First 20 Hours by Josh Kaufman.

Apparently according to the reviews just read the first 3 chapters lol.

It seems like he tries to blend the 10,000 hours book with a few of Tim Ferris's ideas of deconstructing to minor more achievable goals which kind of sounds like Ferris took it from The Secret.

The first 20 hours. That's an eternity in modern contemporary society! ;D

Ended up buying:
Mark Douglas - Trading in the Zone
Napoleon Hill - Think & Grow Rich
Eric Thomas - The Secret to Success

I have read the first 2 eBooks already, but now I have them as audiobooks and can listen to them on the way to work :)

I purchased it from the Apple store on my iPhone.. and I actually have not been through the audio version yet. I have listened to maybe a chapter and it's kind of boring, I think I prefer reading over audio books because it's easier to get distracted and not pay attention when listening to audio books.

Yes I know what you mean - sometimes my mind wanders while I'm listening on the road. However I do still regularly play them.

My library consists of:

Books I would or have listen(ed) to again

Trading In The Zone - Mark Douglas
Market Wizards - Jack Schwager
Hedge Fund Market Wizards - Jack Schwager
Millionaire Traders -How Everyday People Are Beating Wall Street At Its Own Game - Kathy Lien & Boris Schlossberg

Books I probably won't listen to again

Get Rich With Options - Lee Lowell
The Little Book Of Currency Trading - Kathy Lien

Books I've not finished yet

One Good Trade - Mike Bellafiore - Decent start so far

Books I've not started yet

The Prop Traders Chronicles - Francis Chan

Isn't she one of the people who appear on CNBC all the time?

I remember about a year ago someone appeared on there with a ridiculous 1.5 R:R saying they were going to risk 300pips for a 450 pip gain or something ridiculous.

300 pips risk on 450 profit? Isn't that pretty much just flat gambling at that point?

I never really liked any of the CNBC's talking heads some of them risk crazy amounts for a minimal gain, however given it's a "long term position" they are trying to take multi-month trades I could safely assume. It's not really gambling it's just highly risky the reward is meh, but still a positive expectancy if they are right and sadly even if it goes a bit in profit they don't care if they have to close at that time because it's probably a sizable position that their client is eating the risk on.

Yeah I think she does a few TV appearances but not sure which station as I don't know too much about her.

She does take trades like that a lot, but her hit rate is high enough. BK Asset Management (the fund she co-runs last I checked) takes 2 risk to 1.5 or 1 reward sometimes.. her hit rate makes it worth while overall, and she's been trading that way for many years.

Not my digs, but if it works for her...

There's a couple of good ones out that are easy to listen to.

I thought this was a good listen, good overview of the markets

Any of Michael Lewis' books in audio format are quite entertaining -

Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game .
Liar's Poker
Flash Boys
The Big Short
The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game
Boomerang: Travels in the New Third World

Hi,

It appears this is your audio book.

I'd have been ok if you wanted to drop a shameless plug as the author... but instead you'd rather shill. This shows a lack of respect to the forum and its readers.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like to talk about it... but unless there's a good explanation, your book simply will not be part of the discussion here at FXGears.

Agree with your opinion of Lewis's books.

"The big short" was not only engrossing insight into the GFC but one of the best journalistic pieces I have read in the field of finance.
