As for EMA's, by their nature price will return to them, given it's an average of price.. so combine that with visual bias (you look for it to work, so you see it when it works) and pretty much every MA appears to work in some ways.
Still though, I like MAs for keeping me in a trade or giving me an obvious 'this is the trend direction' sign.
Ditto on the crossing. Just love to see price moving away from them making reversal (as you mentioned, returning to them) targets larger . Close out a bit earlier and the rest is history. That’s one of my plays. 8)Jack said:lol.. no worries, just poking fun.
I do like MAs, I watch the 72 EMA on forex. It keeps me in trades longer if I'm on the right side of it and want to let the trade run.
For USD/JPY I always have a 5 and 9 EMA on a 5 minute chart lined up since the pair tends to be propped up by them on breakout moves (so a sign of where to get in on a pullback for a quick scalp in the direction of the breakout.)
The only thing I'm not a fan of (when it comes to MAs) is using them as a signal on their own.. like one crossing the other, or price crossing the MA. That just ends up being a lagging indicator based entry and I'd much rather wait for some type of confirmation first vs just hitting the number as it breaks through.
Maybe Alpha could chime in about this, if he uses them at all in his scalps (I believe he does.)

Ramy3 said:Just to clarify things, the 34 ema is proclaimed (in some milieu ) as being a Self-fulfilling prophecy indicator because so many people rely on it in their trading. And, it does very more often than not give you a (if not exact) support/resistance/turn around. Well at least as far as my trading is concerned.
