Raw Honey for Allergies

So I had a kick of allergies yesterday and I decided to finally try out this since I loathe benadryl.

So the experiment will be that of me taking close to a spoonful of raw unpasterized honey each day, doesn't have to be morning.

The idea behind it is that allergic reactions are caused by our under development as kids in my case I never got to go out much as a kid, although I fail to see the difference now. The experiment will be trying to expose myself to a particular dose in order to build that immunity.

So for the time being I will be attempting this since I don't have severe allergies but I am anticipating a large pollen season due to the extended winter we had and the harsher winter we had this season.

So Today is May 13th, 2014 I have taken a quarter dose as to make sure I am not violently allergic and so far I feel fine. My eyes were watery and scratchy in the morning but it has dissipated later into the afternoon.

The Pollen Outlook is as follows:

Tue. May. 13High
Birch - High
Ash - High
Oak - High
Wed. May. 14High
Ash - High
Birch - High
Oak - Moderate
Thu. May. 15Moderate
Birch - Moderate
Ash - Moderate
Pine, Fir, Spruce - Low

Symptoms:
Runny Nose
Light itchy watery eyes

Woke up with a stuffed nose and a bit of watery eyes. Not severe got in today took a spoon full as we speak we'll see how the day goes.

I would imagine this would be good through the cold seasons too because there is no pollen exposure there and I would imagine your immunity to it dips a little.

Tansen, I second that. I've also started taking raw local honey since the last Winter season - on and off with only 1 teaspoon a day. As this allergy season kicking into high gear, so far I only have a bit of watery eyes and mostly runny nose which is much, much better than in the past. For the past 10 years, I had to take various kind of drugs (e.g., Claritin, Zyrtec, Benadryl, etc.) including allergy shot to control my sever allergy reactions including bloody nose, but most of the times it still didn't work. Now I just have to take the raw honey, lots of water and pinch of sea salt. Much more simpler, it's natural and save more $$$. May be I should increase my dosage to 1 tablespoon a day.

The vendor was telling me to take the actual pollen. He sold it in jars and it was basically a little speck of pollen. It was like little pollen boogers. He said if I take this in conjunction with the honey I'll be good and in about two year's time maybe less depending on the person I'll build up a natural immunity forever.

My allergies aren't terrible but if I could overcome it now it'd be good in the long run is the way I see it and if not I just get a spoonful of sugar before work and I'm fine with that.

It's effectively a more "complex" form of allergy shots (immunotherapy). Just a little slower.

Oh, and the issue is, normally, not less exposure as children, but mono-culture allergens. So you're not allergic to you're normal environment, just everything else. Unless you lived in a place with a lot of cockroaches, then your allergic response system was pegged to over-drive for years. (Flakes of roach skin are this nasty & effective receptor target. "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" is an old, old line, but there's a reason it's always been so highly prized.)

Woke up today runny nose but it was lighter I guess with the pollen count today

Thu. May. 15Moderate
Birch - Moderate
Ash - Moderate
Pine, Fir, Spruce - Low

Light watery eyes but that's probably part of waking up no experience of that through the day.

Argh

I broke out due to stress related hives and I bitched out by taking a reactine since I can't think of any thing other than an anti-histamine.

However I still took my dose of honey I am not sure but I think as long as I don't make reactine a habit it shouldn't affect my target results as much

In addition to raw honey, I also make sure I drink enough water (very important) everyday. And place a pinch of natural sea salt after a glass of water (make sure not to exceed daily recommended quantity) or I just drink a glass of water with sea salt (once/twice a day). The salt will help to loosen up any mucus built up in your body. As salt is diuretic, so adequate hydration with water is important. Initially, I have to go to the bathroom very often but after my body adapted to it, the frequency has dropped. It's just take times to get use to it.

I'm one of those I wish water had a flavour to it kind of people lol.

I often opt for a juice or something more so than just straight water.

I understand but they are not the same. It has to be pure, simple & natural water. Try it with fresh lemons!

So beyond just the Placebo effect, this is honestly working?

For me it seems to be working as the severity of my allergy has improved a lot. I normally take a teaspoon a day but with the allergy season in full swing, I increased to 3 teaspoons a day (morning, afternoon & evening). So far and for the first time in this allergy season, I don't have to take those drugs like Claritin, Zyrtec, Benadryl, etc.. As raw honey, water and sea salt are natural, no dangerous side effects from those drugs, that's why I gave it a try. Anywhere just want to share my experience.

I wouldn't know too early to tell, like I said I have light allergies. Nothing extreme and the pollen count has been high and I haven't experienced the intensity I did like when I lived in British Columbia.

Alas still the sniffles and I'm not sure if the eyes were from exhaustion due to my friend calling me at 3am in the morning telling me Ebay got hacked or if its allergies
