Programming + FX

FTMO Trader Scouting
Hey guys,

I am a computer programmer, I currently develop in PHP, Ruby and Python.
In terms of trading, I do everything discretionally but I'm interested in trying algorithms as I find it super interesting.
I've coded a basic prototype that connects with the Oanda API and receives tick-data.

I can combine tick data and create candles myself, and try to emulate my discretionary trading, but I wanted to know if you could point me in the right direction to how to approach algorithmic trading and forex with tick-data as I assume most people who do it do it that way.

Please pardon my lack of knowledge and any tips and help is greatly appreciated it.

Thank you,

Fer

Missed this topic.

Granted, I've got no clue how to help you. If you're going to program something up, you're looking for an entry and exit criteria. So you'll want to devise some system that will produce it.

Most do not use tick data.

Supposing that you have your heart set on using tick data then I would give MT4(C++ sort of) a miss.

That would leave two main contenders, JForex(Java) or ctrader(C#).
