Hey everyone,

I'm a new member and wanted to introduce myself. First of all, I just got done reading Jack's post about his technology stack, and that's the main reason I joined the forum. To you Jack, the time and effort you put into that post is not lost on me, and the fact that you took your own time to do that just to help people means a lot, thank you very much!

I came across that post because I'm a developer and a trader, but have only recently (just over a year) been getting into combining the two. About the only thing I know for sure is that I don't know much! :) I'm extremely eager to learn, but my main problem is there is SOOOOO much information out there I don't know where to start. I'm currently reading some of Jack Schwager's books and I did get a pile of similar books to get a good foundation about the markets, systems trading in general, etc (pitfalls such as the dangers of optimization and much more). I'm a pretty good C# developer as well and have used NinjaTrader 8 and NinjaScript for the last 2 years or so.

I'm really trying to find the best and most efficient path forward and was hoping to get some advice from others that are I'm sure much further down this road than I am. My tentative plan as of now is as follows, and I wholeheartedly welcome any and all feedback!
  1. Read through Schwager On Futures books as well as a handful of other books from the likes of Perry Kaufman, Schwager, Chande, etc to get a great foundation
  2. Since I'm already experienced in C#, NT8, and NinjaScript, I plan to use NT8 as my full stack platform for efficiency's sake. I figure I can get my feet wet and trade longer term automated strategies on their platform to get a better start
  3. Work my way to a setup similar to Jack's Tech Stack from his post, only I'd plan on using C#, ZeroMQ, and MetaTrader 5 to connect to my existing broker. Obviously some things could change here from now until then since this wouldn't be for at least a couple years I'm sure.
  4. Continue to expand/learn/grow
Any thoughts/feedback anyone has for the most efficient learning path would be wonderful. Thank you to everyone who might read/contribute, and I hope I'm able to help others on here in the future.

Thanks a lot!
Paul

cTrader may be worth a look as it utilises C#

Thanks Jack! I have not seen that yet, but I did check it out and bookmarked it. I'm always excited to add some quality books to the reading list :) Thank you for the list and for pointing me to it!

Cool thank you! I might have seen the name cTrader before but don't know much about it. I'll definitely check it out. After skimming the page it seems it can actually be used in conjunction with NT8 if one so chooses.

Do you have any personal experience with cTrader vs NT8? Specifically I'm curious if someone does have firsthand experience if one platform is better for x and the other for y etc. I'll dig into it as well of course. Thanks!

No experience with NT8, due to restricted choice of Brokers on that platform
