Interesting talk. As for being nature, he closes with the line "... in a way, they are." I think this statement is more poetic comment in closing than reasoned conclusion. If they are in any sense to be understood as nature, it would be as a reflection or projection of human nature. The interesting paradox here is that something so strongly human can go to extremes and effectively get out of control to the point that it seems to take on a life of its own. His talk is part acknowledgement of the wonder of it all and part gentle warning.
This is not new. Like all advances in science and technology we face what the Chinese call a dangerous opportunity. With the yin there is always the yang.
Slavin made a great presentation but I suspect he may have been too creative or too subtle for many. Still, it was quite powerful for those who get it. Thanks Rod.
